10 One-hour lockout

High severity Rheem/Ruud 802P / 80MDP 80% two-stage furnace (UT 1028-928 IFC)R95PRGPE/RGLE

What the control is telling you

Gas heat is locked out for 1 hour, then the control retries automatically. On 802P and R95P, 10 alternates with the code that caused it (11, 13, 14, 61; R95P also 59). On RGPE/RGLE the thermostat shows IGN 1 HR RTRY plus Call For Service / CHECK FURNACE. R95P manual inconsistency: its flowchart says lockout shows as '1'.

Applies to: 802P/80MDP (802PA050-150); R95P (R95PA040-115); RGPE/RGLE 2-stage 80+

Likely causes

  • Repeated failed ignition (4 trials)
  • Flame lost 5 times in one heat call
  • Unexpected flame
  • Dead blower - main limit open more than 150 seconds (802P, R95P)
  • Unexpected voltage on the gas valve circuit that clears when the inducer stops (802P, R95P)
  • R95P: water sensed again within 5 minutes of the next heat attempt in the same call

Test and repair steps

  1. Read the code shown with 10 (or the fault buffer) and troubleshoot that fault first.
  2. 802P / R95P on power-up the 3 most recent faults less than one week old flash newest to oldest.
  3. RGPE/RGLE on power reset the last five codes show newest first.
  4. Lockouts clear when the fault is fixed and power is cycled; a soft lockout can also be cleared by removing the heat call for more than 2 but less than 20 seconds.
  5. RGPE/RGLE shut off main power, wait 30 seconds and restore, or remove and re-establish the heat call.
  6. While locked out, cooling and fan calls still run but the display shows the lockout code (802P, R95P).
  7. If nothing is done the lockout resets itself after 1 hour.
