Rheem · Heat pump

Flashing c / C / h / H Anti-short-cycle (3 min) or minimum-run (30 s) timer active

Low severity Rheem/Ruud PRL-JEC heat pump (Comfort Control2 ICC)

What the control is telling you

A flashing mode letter means the ICC has a call (c = 1st-stage cool, C = 2nd-stage cool, h = 1st-stage heat pump, H = 2nd-stage heat pump) but is holding the compressor on its 3-minute anti-short-cycle timer or 30-second minimum-run timer. Not a fault. Note: some pages of this manual show h1/h2 instead of h/H.

Applies to: (-)PRL-JEC 2-stage 16 SEER heat pumps: RPRL/UPRL-024JEC, -036JEC, -048JEC, -060JEC

Likely causes

  • Compressor recently stopped (3-minute delay between compressor runs)
  • Call removed less than 30 seconds after start (minimum run timer)

Test and repair steps

  1. Wait for the timer to finish; the letter turns steady when the compressor runs.
  2. To skip the delay, press TEST for 1 second and release; display shows 't', then compressor and outdoor fan start.
  3. If the letter flashes repeatedly with constant short runs, check fault history for code 03 (short cycling).
